The Education and Training Committee of the FIA is finalizing a training and workshop plan for our members that will also be accredited for CPD requirements. The Board approved a budget for this purpose to ensure that our members remain fully compliant with the Fit and Proper competence requirements. The training plan will play an integral role in supporting the mission critical factors of the FIA which include the relevance and sustainability of our members and enhancing membership value.
On 23 May 2018 the FIA Training and Education Committee discussed the training plan at length to ensure that when we roll out our offerings on CPD interventions, we are fully aligned to the different needs of our members and that all administrative systems and processes are in place. An appropriate administrative system will be of benefit to members in complying with the obligation of keeping record of all training and CPD activities. The committee therefore resolved as follows:
- The concept of the training plan for the FIA is approved;
- CPD is a new requirement and costs for these obligations cannot be paid from membership fees. FIA members will therefore pay a fee for these CPD interventions;
- The fees payable will be universal and not differ from branch to branch;
- The training plan will be exclusive to FIA members, and
- The focus will be on covering costs in order to break even with the approved expense budget.
The committee will now carefully consider a universal fee that will be charged for attendance of our CPD accredited face-to-face workshops. Such fee will be more than reasonable and will reflect the value of being a member of the FIA.
We are also considering service offerings by accredited providers to compliment the FIA training program that will include face-to-face training and workshops at branch level as well as online training that will be accredited for CPD purposes. These service offerings contain an element of discounted rates for FIA members to ease the financial burden brought about by compulsory CPD requirements. These accredited training providers also incorporate systems that will assist with the obligatory competence record keeping requirements placed upon FSPs.
The first CPD cycle in terms of the Fit and Proper requirements starts on 1 June 2018 and ends 31 May 2019 and most members will have to complete at least 18 hours of CPD accredited interventions.
We will soon provide comprehensive details of dates, times and venues of CPD workshops, including how to register and what fees will be charged to attend. Members are welcome to contact Joe Kotze (email or 012 665 0085) if there is any matter that needs further clarification.
