PG Glass Technician Kgomotso Molefe has plenty of reason to celebrate. She just achieved a historic Best of Belron victory, becoming the first woman and first South African to do so.
PG Glass technician Technician Kgomotso Molefe has made history by being the first woman and first South African to win a category at the global Best of Belron Competition. She was named the Best Repair Technician of 2024 at the prestigious competition, which was held in Lisbon, Portugal, in June.
What is Best of Belron?
The Best of Belron competition is a biennial global event held across the Belron Group and designed to recognise and determine the best Belron technician in the world. It brings together technicians from around the globe, giving them the chance to showcase their skills and expertise. This year, 30 technicians from six continents competed in front of almost 1 700 colleagues, customers, suppliers, shareholders, and the media. Molefe, who works at the PG Glass Fitment Centre in Centurion, came first in the Functional Category, and won the Best Repair, earning prize money in the process.
“This demonstrates PG Glass’s commitment and our Repair focus strategy, which is a promise to our customers,” says Ray Davidson, MD of PG Glass. We will always try to repair, if possible, before replacing the windscreen, saving both clients (insurers) and end customers money that comes with fitting a new windscreen. This philosophy is entrenched throughout the company and our technicians are trained to follow the stringent PG Glass process to deliver our promise consistently. Our technicians are also certified and accredited in the highest global standards to ensure we deliver quality workmanship and to adhere to safety standards in vehicle glass repair and replacement.”
Series of firsts
Molefe was one of only three women technicians competing in the Best of Belron Competition 2024. Her victory makes her the first woman and the first South African to win at the competition. Her victory also shines a spotlight on South Africa as she competed against technicians from 30 different countries.
“Kgomotso’s dedication, skill and perseverance are an inspiration to aspiring technicians worldwide, particularly women,” says Davidson. “We are incredibly proud of her for winning the Best Repair Award at Best of Belron 2024. This achievement is testament to her dedication, skill, and the high standards we uphold at PG Glass.
