On Wednesday, 5 September 2018, the FIA West Rand branch hosted their annual charity golf day at Randpark Country Club, to raise funds for their charity of choice, CANSA.
On what turned out to be a beautiful, highveld spring day, the golfers were greeted by a host of sponsors as they provided watering holes on ten of the tee boxes.
Fourballs made up of intermediaries, insurers and suppliers alike took to the course. Some shots were worthy of being on the PGA tour and some were a little less likely to make the cut. Overall, the players had a great day playing golf for a good cause. The day also presented an opportunity to network within the industry.
After an action-packed golf, prize-giving and dinner followed. The top 10 placed fourballs were awarded prizes with the overall winning fourball walking away with trophies and prizes too.
CANSA, which is in its fourth year as the branch’s charity of choice received the proceeds from the day. This amounted to over R10 000. Double from what the amount was last year. As Munnik Marais, corporate relations manager of CANSA said, “we realise that times are tough and we really appreciate the support given by the FIA West Rand Branch for this donation.
CANSA also held a raffle on the day for one lucky winner to win a two-night stay at the luxurious De Hoek Country Hotel.
Phil Le Feuvre, chairman of the FIA West Rand branch and deputy director of the FIA Rand region had this to say, “this golf day has been taking place for over 30 years now. Each year we strive to make a donation to the chosen charity. Due to tough economic times, we were worried about filling the field but the sponsors and players really came to the party this year. This allowed for over 10 holes and the practice green to be sponsored. Thank you once again to the sponsors and we look forward to inviting everyone back to Randpark again next year.”
The day would not have been able to happen without the support of the sponsors and the organising team. A big thanks goes out to the following companies and individuals that partnered with the FIA West Rand branch:
- Bryte, Glasfit, GTC, Insure Group, Omnisure, PG Glass, Santam, Tracker, Old Mutual Insure, Multimodal, Best Sure, Hollard, Discovery, SA Underwriters, PWV, ALJ, Kotzeuns, Afrocentric, Telesure, Dave Pohl, Rodel, Galinco and Carmen
