The ninth annual Intellidex Top Stockbroker awards evening took place at the Johannesburg Securities Exchange (JSE) on Tuesday, 25 September 2018.
The awards evening is the culmination of a six-week long research program conducted by Intellidex, a specialist financial capital markets research house.
What makes this even more impressive is that the votes, in certain categories, are cast by the general public, as they recognise the brokers for the service they provide.
“Brokers are the link between customers and the platforms providers” said Mark Hasenfuss, Editor of FM Investors Monthly, media partner for the awards.
Stuart Theobald, Chairman of Intellidex, spoke about the current industry trends and reaffirmed the point that a large number of South Africans do not save monthly and are in debt. He spoke about the need to “move away from the liability column in the balance sheet and focus more on building the customers assets over the next few years, with brokers encouraging customers to save and not spend”
The responses from the survey showed that there has been a big swing over the last year away from online researching of stocks to word of mouth recommendations from friends.
“Clients feel brokers service has remained level over the last year but with client also saying they have never met their broker face to face” says Theobald. “However, 59% of the surveyed customers say that they use the information provided by the brokers.
FIA partner for 2018, EasyEquities, won two awards. The first being Top TFSA (Tax Free Savings Account), which in the four years the category has been around, has only been won by EasyEquities. They also took home the Top Online Broker award. EasyEquities is part of the Purple Group, which also has GT247.com, which came fourth in the overall Top Stock Broker.
