Cape Town, February 2022 – Santam, South Africa’s largest short-term insurer, has appointed Carla Jordan as the Chief Executive Officer of Emerald Risk Transfer, the wholly-owned subsidiary that is the leading underwriter of corporate property and affiliated engineering risks in the country and the continent.
Jordan is currently the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) at Emerald and has also served as an Executive Director at the company since 2012. The appointment is effective from 01 March 2022. She replaces Bernie Ray, who has resigned as CEO of the company.
Quinten Matthew, the Executive Head of Santam’s Specialist Business, said Jordan has over 20 years’ experience in the short-term insurance industry in South Africa.
“Carla has worked at Emerald for 14 years and has therefore acquired a broad knowledge of the business. She has also been intricately involved with the strategy and growth of Emerald as it has evolved over the years into a leading corporate underwriter in the African continent. Carla is an accountant by profession and has also recently completed her MBA,” said Matthew.
She is a past president of the Insurance Institute of Gauteng, Jordan has been involved in a number of industry wide transformation and development initiatives and education programmes. She is also a co-founder of the Gauteng Women in Insurance.
Matthew also announced the appointment of Nonte Nzimakwe as Chief Financial Officer, with Hans Schollenberger and Linda Dayanand, being appointed as Executive Directors at Emerald.
“Nonte has been with Emerald since 2016 and comes with a wealth of financial knowledge and experience in the insurance industry. She has also recently been appointed as the Treasurer of the Insurance Institute of Gauteng. Hans and Linda are both long-standing members of the Emerald executive team who have played an important role in the success of Emerald, and are an integral part of its future strategy,” said Matthew.
